Common Core Math

Topics learned in this course include: Numbers and Operations; Algebra and Algebraic Thinking; Fractions; Geometry; Measurement; and Data, Statistics, and Probability. Students will be guided through practice problems as a class, and will use the online learning platform, IXL, to help master essential skills at their own pace through fun and interactive questions. Students also answer weekly "Diagnostic" math questions to pinpoint levels of understanding and will be offered tailored recommendations for practice.
All current registered students will have the access to IXL learning from school and home. (Most trusted e-learning program on US. Over 90 billion questions answered, More than 12 million students use IXL)

DESCRIPTION
This course will teach students various topics in math throughout the year while also encouraging students to learn different problem solving techniques. Content taught will vary per grade level and ranges from learning topics like addition and subtraction to topics like analyzing rates of change on graphs. Each class is split into two portions: a collaborative and independent portion. The first collaborative portion is where the instructor will teach students about that day's math lesson and have students engage in solving problems together. The second portion will consist of students working individually on the assignment for today on IXL with help from the instructor when needed.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Different approaches to math, conceptually understanding math, solving word problems, problem solving skills, using models in math, balancing equations, interpreting graphs, real life applications of math, multiplication facts, input and output tables, etc
Students can expect to learn common core math concepts, study tips, and problem solving strategies. Topics learned in this course will be supplemental to concepts students may be learning in school. Students will also have the chance to work one-on-one with the instructor through any assigned math-related school work.
WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR
Elementary & middle schoolers
REQUIREMENTS
We'll start the course by talking about different kinds of numbers, so all you need to know to get started is a basic understanding of arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
PREREQUISITES
No
COURSE INCLUDES
2 live online classes/week, classroom material base upon IXL
